OPS Public Safety is a true specialist, providing smart, modular style storage cabinets for police officers and first responders alike. OPS has been in business since 2006, so it’s a young but vibrant company that works tirelessly to provide strong customer service. It’s also one of the few Canadian businesses servicing U.S. law enforcement and first responders, though it has opened a second location in Schaumburg, Illinois that has been in operation since 2013.
OPS makes use of sophisticated modeling and design software to create its storage solutions, so they are computer precise. And though standardized solutions are available, OPS regularly works one-on-one with police and first responders to create a custom solution for their needs. OPS is willing to do this because first responders know what they need from their storage, and the company listens to those needs. With OPS, it seems they have thought of every step of the manufacturing process, and even though they were a Canadian company first, all of their products are built in the USA.
How many companies focused on first responders rely on Lean Manufacturing and Sigma Six quality standards? Not many, but that’s why OPS is able to provide an extremely high quality product at an accelerated timeline. There also aren’t many companies that are so confident in their product that they are willing to offer a limited lifetime warranty, but OPS does because its workmanship quality is superior. In fact, OPS expects, on average, that each of its solutions will perform for 12 years before they need to be serviced or replaced. That’s real confidence in the product.
OPS’s Product Offerings
OPS storage solutions are made for a variety of first responder vehicles. On the police side, its products are best formatted for the Ford Interceptor Utility and the Chevy Tahoe. On the first responder side, OPS solutions are ideal for fire and rescue command vehicles. Here’s a closer look at OPS’s cargo options.
1. Pursuit Series – The Pursuit Series is one of OPS’s most standout products and can work in either the Interceptor Utility or Tahoe. It comes in three layouts. The first is a single cargo drawer, built with a black powder coating and fitted with rubber matting. Like all of OPS’s cargo solutions, it is constructed using high strength, lightweight aluminum. Compared to steel, aluminum offers a 40 percent weight reduction, which means easier installation and lower fuel costs. Also, the Pursuit is finished with 200-pound ball bearing drawer sides for extended durability and reliability. Finally, the Pursuit comes with elevated mounting brackets so the drawers can be installed without affecting access to the spare tire well.
The Pursuit Series can also be paired with a weapon drawer or cabinet, which is mounted directly to the top of the cargo drawer. Both are compact storage options, adding only another 6-inches to the top of the cargo drawer. The weapon cabinet comes with a pair of trigger latches and gas springs to keep it securely shut when not in use.
2. Single, Dual, Stacked and Combo Drawer Series – OPS can provide a mix of drawer options, all of them available with a number of added features and capable of handling up to 500 pounds of equipment. The single drawer model spans the width of the vehicle and is available in 12-inch, 16-inch and 20-inch heights, and 24-inch or 36-inch depths. The dual drawer solution comes in the same sizes, but contains a pair of drawers in one unit. The stacked drawer solution is available in 12-inch and 20-inch heights, and 24-inch or 36-inch depths. Just like it sounds, the stacked drawer option comes with a pair of wide drawers, one on top of the other.
All three options are built with an anti-skid surface and cargo rail. The drawer slides are rated for 200 pounds of capacity, and the drawers are finished with a latch system and key cylinder lock that only requires a single hand to operate. OPS’s single, dual and stacked drawer models are made from the same high strength, low weight aluminum that the Pursuit is built from.
OPS also offers a highly versatile combo drawer model that comes with a driver side and passenger side compartment, built from a single drawer. The combo drawer option is ideal when items of different heights and widths need to be stored in the same unit. Like OPS’s other drawer solutions, the combo drawer option can be part of a larger, modular style storage solution.
OPS also offers a set of optional features for its drawer products. Some of those features include a push button deadbolt with key override, several types of dividers, removable foam inserts, padded gun mounts, rubber matting and a black powder coat finish.
3. First Response and Command interiors – OPS also works with first responders to develop cargo solutions for their particular needs. First Response solutions are designed for pickup and SUV fire response and command vehicles and are extremely rugged. They are capable of managing up to 2,000 pounds of equipment in a set of storage drawers that can be extended 100 percent out of the vehicle. OPS can work with departments to come up with the right set of drawers and cabinets for their specific needs.
Command interior upfits are the most extensive cargo solutions that OPS offers and can be used with police or emergency response command vehicles. Each one is unique and includes racks, cabinets, and lockers for equipment, gear and weapons storage.
OPS cargo products are made to last and made to perform. Whether a department needs a basic, compact solution, or a total fleet-wide refit, OPS can provide the tools.
